Play restarts from the attacking player Number 6 of the attacking team
KEY COACHING POINTS
- Positioning ahead of opposition first press to receive
- Positioning to flatten opposition midfield line so passes can be played in behind, through and in front of them.
- Recognise where the ball, teammates and opponents are
- Recognise when winger will need your support
- At times your runs may not result in you getting the ball but will provide support for the winger
- Link up play and 3rd man run resulting from connection between winger, a central player and fullback
- Movement to receive either to feet or in space
- Movement and positioning of wide attacking midfield to allow fullback overlap in wing space or underlap into half space.
- Make a quick run and be courageous
- 1v1 feints, dummies, change of direction, start and stops etc along the wings
- Communication – go away, come inside, come outside, play etc
- Ask for the ball and be clear how you want it – into space or to feet.
- Provide an end product – Cross, pass or shoot
